Examining samples
Histopathologists examine tissue samples, usually biopsies, to detect changes that indicate the cause of a patients illness. They use microscopes and chemical stains to distinguish healthy tissue from abnormal tissue.
Diagnosing diseases
Histopathologists diagnose and study diseases of the tissues and organs, including cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Helping with treatment
Histopathologists play a vital role in planning treatment for patients with cancer by staging and grading their tumors.
Working with other healthcare professionals
Histopathologists work closely with other doctors, scientists, and healthcare staff to manage a patients care.
Requirements
Degree in medicine (essential).
5 years of residency training (essential).
Current state medical license and Federal DEA license (essential).
Completed U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (essential).
3 years of experience practicing as a primary care doctor.
Fantastic counseling and listening skills.
