They may use both surgical and non-surgical methods, including prescribing medications and performing procedures like joint replacements or bone grafts. Orthopedists also play a role in rehabilitation and can refer patients to physical therapists or other specialists as needed.

- A medical degree in orthopedics and the successful completion of a fellowship and residency.
A license and certification to practice medicine.
