- A Nurse Assistant (also known as a Nursing Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant, CNA) provides essential support to nurses and other healthcare professionals in caring for patients. They assist with daily activities, monitor patient health, and ensure patient comfort in healthcare settings like hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care Assistance: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
Vital Signs Monitoring: Measure and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, heart rate) and report any changes to nursing staff.
Patient Comfort: Help patients with repositioning, comfort measures, and ensuring they are safe and well-cared for during their stay.
Supportive Tasks: Assist nurses with basic medical tasks, such as dressing wounds, providing oxygen, and helping with medical equipment.
Record Keeping: Document patient care, including activities and observations, in patient records as required.
Communication: Relay patient concerns and updates to nurses and other medical staff, ensuring smooth communication among the healthcare team.
Skills & Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a state-approved Nurse Assistant training program.
Certification: Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required in many regions.
Experience: Clinical experience through internships or on-the-job training in healthcare settings.
Key Skills: Compassionate care, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively under supervision.
Physical Stamina: Ability to assist with patient lifting, moving, and other physical tasks.
- Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Must hold current CNA certification in the state of practice
Prior work experience in a direct patient care setting or in a long term care facility preferred
Must be in good physical health to be able to lift and move patients, and to be able to walk or stand for long periods of time
Must be compassionate and personable
