Treatment
Chest physicians develop treatment plans for respiratory illnesses, which may include medication, oxygen therapy, breathing exercises, or surgery. They also provide ongoing management for chronic conditions.
Prevention
Chest physicians may advise patients on lifestyle changes to help manage their conditions. They may also participate in lung cancer screening and smoking cessation programs.
Specialization
Chest physicians may specialize in certain diseases, like asthma, COPD, or pulmonary fibrosis, or in unique demographics, like pediatric or geriatric patients.
To become a chest physician, youll need to complete a bachelors degree, four years of medical school, a three- to five-year residency program, and a fellowship program. Some pulmonologists may complete two fellowships for subspecialties

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in pulmonology.
