- Description
- A. Assemble garments parts and join parts with basting stitches, using needles and thread or sewing machines.
B. Confer with Designers to determine types of material and garment styles desired.
C. Develop copy or adapt designs for garments and design patterns to fit measurements, applying knowledge of garment design, construction, style and fabric.
D. Fit, alter, repair and make made-to-measure clothing, according to customer’s and Management’s specifications and applying principles of tailoring.
E. Fit and study garments on customers to determine required alterations.
F. Position patterns on fabric; mark the same and cut fabric along outlines using scissors.
G. Determine the best layout of pattern pieces to minimize waste of materials & fabric accordingly.
H. Sew and cut garments using needles, pins and sewing machines; utilize machines or any other equipment used for tailoring.
I. Prepare and adjust mannequins to actual measurements of client.
J. Meet clients and take measurement (In the office or outside if required).
K. Create paper patterns according to measurement.
L. Discuss models with Designers in order to achieve desired effect.
M. Select suitable fabrics for each model.
N. Discuss working processes with Designers & Tailors and oversee the whole production.
O. Train and support existing and new staff.
P. Handle alterations.

- Requirements
- Primary Responsibilities
• Making garments (e.g. gowns, dresses, blouses, shirts, pants, skirts, and
jackets):
o Marking patterns and designs or using pre-designed ones to cut fabric
into the necessary shapes;
o being able to draft, drape, and translate designs from concept to
delivery;
o being able to imagine how the end garment will look like from the
pattern design; and
• Altering and repairing garments:
o Fixing torn or damaged clothing, as well as adjusting clothes to better fit customers; and
o ensuring proper measurements, adjustments, and fittings.
• Working directly with customers:
o Discussing with customers regarding their desired specifications for clothes;
o giving customers recommendations regarding fabrics, colours, and styles;
o showing customers samples of different fabrics and explaining the qualities of each one;
o taking measurements; and
o ensuring alterations are done on time for when the customer returns.
• Defining technical specifications for the garments and being
knowledgeable about fabrics, patterns, shapes, and colours: o Selecting and testing different fabrics;
o knowing about pattern-making and fittings, adapting and creating patterns as needed; and
o keeping up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and techniques, as well as finding the best quality fabrics.
• Using specialized equipment such as industrial sewing machines and irons.
• Organizing and maintaining fabrics, trims, and other materials.
• Preparing a budget based on time of work, costs of fabrics, and any special
materials necessary.
