Description: Speech therapists evaluate and diagnose communication disorders and speech impairments. They may also treat speech problems caused by accidents or sickness.
Developing treatment plans
Speech therapists create individualized treatment plans to help patients improve their speech.
Providing therapy
Speech therapists use speech therapy procedures to treat patients and help them regain communication.
Working with families
Speech therapists may work with families to implement strategies to improve speech between treatments.
Keeping records
Speech therapists keep records of a patients initial evaluation, progress, and discharge. This helps identify problems, track progress, and justify the cost of treatment.
Speech therapists may also help patients with: stuttering, swallowing disorders, language delays or disorders, and voice quality problems.

Requirements: Masters degree in speech therapy or speech-language pathology.
Relevant license and certification.
Experience with certain disorders and age groups may be required.
Sound understanding of speech-related disorders and treatments.
Familiarity with database management software.
Excellent relationship-building skills.
Resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills.
Willingness to conduct research and travel to conferences.
