Description: Patient care: Interviewing, investigating, diagnosing, and overseeing treatment
Teaching and research: Participating in departmental audit activities, writing reports, and teaching residents
Communication: Liaising with the community and providing liaison and communication services
Supervision: Supervising junior doctors and the clinical work of junior staff
Other duties: Implementing and monitoring adherence to National Core Standards, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and taking on on-call duties
Some additional responsibilities may include:
Attending high risk/emergency deliveries
Liaising with the Consultant on call regarding unstable infants
Ensuring that all patient records, referrals, and discharge letters are completed accurately and promptly
Ensuring that the dignity and humanitarian needs of the child/family are met and cultural needs are respected
Providing active support to the Senior Registrar or the Consultant in total patient care and management
Modifying or changing the initial evaluation and treatment of patients begun by junior staff
Providing departmental supervision of specific vocational training of junior staff
