Description: Prosthodontistry is a field of dental care that specializes in restoration of the mouth and teeth. Prosthodontists are concerned with fixing problems surrounding tooth loss and jaw problems. They aim to improve the function and the aesthetics of the teeth, mouth and jaw by replacing tooth tissues and teeth and oral structures. They can also work on treating cleft palates, snoring disorders or sleep apnea. They differ from general dentists as this a specific and specialised area of dentistry and restoration, whereas dentists work on the basic to keep teeth clean and protect the gums.

Prosthodontist responsibilities:

-Fitting veneers onto patient’s teeth to conceal tooth defects and improve the aesthetics of their mouth and jaw.
-Replacing missing teeth with permanent fixtures, such as crowns, bridges or dentures. This also involves being able to fix them if they get damaged or need replacing.
-Diagnosing and creating effective treatment plans for patients with jaw or joint pain and problems.
-Collaborating and working closely with general dentists and other specialists to develop effective treatment plans for patients.

Requirements: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD).
Appropriate state licensure.
Proven experience working as a prosthodontist.
Sound knowledge of fixed and removable prosthodontics.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills.
Good hand-eye coordination.
