Description: An Orthopedic Surgeon, also known as an orthopedist, specializes in diagnosing, treating, and performing surgery on the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. They work to restore mobility, relieve pain, and improve a patients quality of life. Orthopedic surgeons may specialize in areas like sports medicine, spine, hand, or foot and ankle surgery.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
4 to 7 years’ internship and residency training, specializing in orthopedic surgery.
Successful completion of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX-USA).
Certification by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in orthopedic surgery and/or a subspecialty, such as sports medicine, reconstructive surgery, trauma, or pediatrics.
