Description: An Internal Medicine doctor provides comprehensive, adult-focused care for a wide range of diseases and conditions, acting as a primary care physician and managing complex, chronic illnesses. Key responsibilities include conducting physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and educating patients on preventative care and lifestyle changes to maintain health and wellness. Internists are also trained to handle conditions affecting multiple organ systems, such as heart, kidney, and digestive issues

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of medicine (MD) degree or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree.
3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in internal medicine.
Successful completion of the Internal Medicine Certification Examination.
Certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in internal medicine.
Valid and active medical license in the state you wish to practice.
