Description: Diagnosing: Analyze patient records, test results, and other information to diagnose medical conditions
Treating: Provide nonsurgical treatments, prescribe medications, and administer therapy for a wide range of diseases and injuries
Preventing: Provide advice on healthy nutrition and vaccines to prevent disease
Educating: Discuss health concerns and test results with patients, and inform them on how to take new medications
Documenting: Document patients medical history, examination notes, and test results
Referencing: Refer patients to specialists when needed

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
Doctor of medicine (MD) degree or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree.
3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in internal medicine.
Successful completion of the Internal Medicine Certification Examination.
Certification by The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in internal medicine.
Valid and active medical license in the state you wish to practice.
