Description: Cleaning teeth: Removing tartar, plaque, and stains from teeth
Applying sealants and fluorides: Protecting teeth from tooth decay
Taking and developing dental X-rays: Determining the extent of decay and disease
Assessing oral health: Reporting findings to dentists
Educating patients: Teaching patients how to brush and floss correctly, and counseling them about nutrition and oral health
Documenting patient care: Updating patient records and treatment plans
Screening for gingivitis and oral cancer: Assisting dentists with selecting appropriate treatments
Providing administrative support: Maintaining patient documentation and communication
Practicing sterilization and infection control: Maintaining equipment and following universal precautions

Requirements: Associate’s degree from an accredited hygiene program.
State hygiene license.
Current CPR certificate.
Current on Hepatitis B vaccination.
Ability to administer local anesthetic agents.
Able to use an x-ray machine.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
